My first main duty station in the Navy, after Boot Camp and A-School, was to Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella on the island of Sicily in Italy. While traveling to Sigonella, I had to first make a couple day detour at Philadelphia Navy Yard in Pennsylvania while waiting for the plane to arrive. While at the Navy Yard, I took a walk around to see some of the mothballed ships from years past. Here is the stern of the USS Des Moines (CA-134).
