July 11th began the last two days of the workshop that entailed learning about the Hawaiian culture behind eruptions. Chris Gregg (seen here giving us our opening lecture from the Hilo Harbor) was the one that led this section of the workshop. We all learned about the hardships endured by the native Hawaiians from a couple of villages that were inundated by the lava flows.
