Two days later, on October 26, 1993, I was out on the Ross Ice Shelf attending Snow Survival School - what we called Happy Campers School. For any personnel that had to go to a base on the continent they had to go through this survival school. It was primarily a two day class on learning snow survival skills from building snow shelters (seen here from previous classes), finding people in a blizzard that are not far from shelter, and experiencing camping out on the ice. My buddy, DC2 Brian Connell, and I were among this group. We had two glorious weather days as you can see in the photo.
