(July 15, 2004 to July 31, 2004) We woke on July 15th to very windy, rainy, and slightly rough seas to land on the northern cove (Applegate Cove) of Chuginadak Island. We had to set up camp in the windy and rainy conditions as the wind also picked up the sand and gave us a good "sandblasting." This year's field campaign was to originally land on the southwest side of the volcano to investigate the 2001 deposits more, and get to older deposits that have not been looked at yet. Since the weather was not good enough to land on the southwest and even South Cove, we had to live with being at Applegate Cove. The good thing was that it was closer to a source of water, which we needed for the 15 days on the island. The main goal of this year's season was to gather more information for mapping the volcano and to gather samples for chemical analysis.
