On Friday, March 18, 2005, Kate met me on 2nd Avenue in downtown Fairbanks for the first day of the 2005 Open North American Sled Dog race. There were 16 teams that were getting ready to run the 20 mile course. When I first got there I happened to notice Miss Alaska walking around taking pictures with some of the mushers. I took one of her with this guy since she was close enough. This year, as with last year, snow had to be added to the street for the start since most of the snow was already melting by this time in March.
