A kind gentleman was at this burial trench taking a break from some work being done at the battlefield. He was a southerner who also did a lot of re-enacting of Civil War battles. He was very kind enough to tell Kate and I that these two grave markers, in front of the main trench marker, are the graves of the last two known Confederate burials on the battlefield. They were buried recently, but the date slipped my mind since we talked with the gentleman.
