...Wood's Field. When walking northeast from the road, you are walking the direction the Confederate troops did that early April morning on the 6th. Union forces were surprised by the advancing Confederates at Fraley's Field (small open space in the trees in the distance) which is on the northeastern end of Wood's Field. This was the main beginning of the Battle of Shiloh.
