A week before the 145th Anniversary of the Battle of Shiloh in Tennessee, Kate and I headed down to tour the battlefield and a couple other sites in the area in late March 2007. We stayed in Corinth, Mississippi since there was no closer hotels available. We saw several sites that are discussed in Jeff Shaara's book: "Civil War Battlefields." Great book with a lot of interesting tid bits about 10 different battlefields. Shiloh was one of them. The battle took place on April 6-7, 1862, and is also known as the Battle of Pittsburg Landing. On the morning after we arrived, Kate and I were waiting for the visitor center to open, so we checked out a couple monuments nearby. This is the monument to Iowa.
