The rest of the evening drive through the Yukon was more treacherous. We ran into snow, wind, and icey roads around Kluane Lake (all in complete darkness). Just about 5 minutes before arriving at our evening destination of Haines Junction, Yukon Territory, we encountered 3 grazing moose along the side of the highway (2 on one side and one on the other). The moose were not spotted until the vehicle was right on top of them, and they just watched us go by. Luckily, they did not have any mind to walk into the road at the time. After that eye-opening experience, we finally arrived at the motel in Haines Junction at around 10:45 PM (PDT). We had been driving for 9 and a half hours. The next day (October 22, 2005) we woke to cloudy skies, but a very nice view of (I believe) the Ruby Range Mountains.
