P1012989 Continuing south along the Corinth Road, we came to the Shiloh Church. This was the sight of some fighting on the first day of the battle. It is a reconstruction of the original structure. P1012989
P1012994 Along the Hamburg-Purdy Road is the 77th Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment Monument. The 77th Pennsylvania was part of the Army of the Ohio that mainly fought on the second day of the battle after arriving on the steamers at Pittsburg Landing. P1013002 Driving further east along the Hamburg-Purdy Road, we came to the southern part of Sarah Bell's Old Cotton Field. The northern end of this field is where the peach orchard is located - you can make it and the George Cabin out in the distance. P1013002

P1013014 He was later taken from his horse and down into this ravine about 50 yards southeast from the Monument and white oak tree. General Johnston was the highest ranking Southern officer killed during the war. At the time of his death, his popularity was as strong as it was for General Lee. P1013014
P1013017 The next morning, Kate and I went to visit the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center in Corinth, Mississippi. Corinth, Mississippi was a hub of the southern railroad, and was put under a siege at the end of April 1862. P1013017
