PB175634 We had one other stop before heading back to the hotel to await the Chilean BBQ that was taking place that evening. One of the park sculpture across from the hotel is in the foreground of Villarrica.

PB175636 This was a cool display that the hotel set up on the grass area near the lakeside beach. All of the chefs were waiting to have their pictures taken by it.

PB175640 During the BBQ, I went out to the front of the hotel to try and take a photo of Villarrica at night. I didn't have a tripod, so I tried as best as I could to not make the camera move while I took photos of the volcano. The very bright light is a street light, while the reddish light in the center of the photo is actually the glow of the lava lake in the crater off of the steam/gas plume at the summit. Pretty cool!

PB195679re-expose Friday, November 19, 2004, was the last day of the conference. This was the day that I had to present my poster to the community of volcanologist. This was the latest information about my thesis.

PB215730re-expose The next day, November 20, 2004, I was on my way back to Alaska. Leaving Santiago, Chile was adventurous since President Bush was there at the same time. Security was pretty heavy. After taking off from Santiago, there were some cool lightning from the nearby thunderstorms. Unfortunately, I didn't get any photos of them, but it was cool. As we finally reached American airspace over Texas, I got some nice shots of the sunrise to the east.

PB215731re-expose When the next flight from Dallas to Seattle got close to Seattle, I got some photos of Mt. St. Helens with some minor steam from the newly forming dome. The dome began growing again when the latest round of activity began in September 2004.
